Phyllis TenElshof, age 74 years, went to be with her Lord & Savior Jesus Christ on January 8 after a 27-year struggle with cancer. Phyllis knew where she would spend eternity & shared this sure hope with many people.

Along with being a wonderful mother Phyllis had other God given abilities. She was a graduate of GR Christian High School, GVSU & Wheaton College. After receiving her journalism degree she was an editor at the Banner, a CRC publication. Then she became a feature writer for the Clarion-Ledger newspaper in Jackson Mississippi. Later she was an editor for Christianity Today in Wheaton, Illinois. After she retired Phyllis did free-lance editing. Also Phyllis wrote a devotional book called “What Cancer Cannot Do” which was published.

Phyllis was preceded in death by her father, Sam Zylstra & her nephew, Joel Heydenburg.

Phyllis will be deeply missed by her mother, Cora Hoogerwerf; her children, Laura (Brad) Pruim & Brian (Robin) Ten Elshof; her grandchildren, Bradon, Hudson & Kayla Pruim, Cora & Saige TenElshof & Sepporah Johnson; her sisters & brother-in-laws, Mary (John) Paddinge, Jane (Bob) Rhoda, Sally (Frank) Jonkman, Barb (Royce) & her brother, Sam Zylstra.

A memorial service will be held on February 21 at 11:00 am at Church of the Servant (3835 Burton St, SE) A light luncheon will follow the service.

The family wishes to thank all the caregivers from Hospice of Holland for their wonderful care.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Holland or Church of the Servant.
