Obituary for Mary Therese Creswell (Kosakoski)

Mary Therese (Kosakoski) Creswell, age 82, of East Grand Rapids, passed away peacefully on January 16, 2022. She was born on October 27, 1939, in Grand Rapids, MI, the daughter of the late Frank and Irene (Verlin) Kosakoski. She was raised in Grand Rapids, graduated from Catholic Central High School, and settled in East Grand Rapids where she spent most of her life. A dedicated mother who treasured her 5 children, 13 grandchildren, and 2 great granddaughters, she embraced every moment with them. She loved family get-togethers for holidays, especially Christmas, Easter, and birthdays. Her family relished her frequent attendance and her cheerful encouragement at her grandchildren’s sporting events, music concerts, and dance recitals. She was their number 1 fan. The principles of Catholicism guided Mary throughout her life. Weekly bible study meetings with her lifelong girlfriends were a source of joy and meaning. She started the St. Stephen’s Church funeral luncheon program 40 years ago for which she worked tirelessly throughout the years. One of her greatest accomplishments and pleasures, the luncheon program provided comfort to grieving families by serving them a warm meal after Mass. Her life was a living example of her favorite bible verse-Love is patient, love is kind, 1 Corinthians 13:4-8. Mary was a loving and devoted mother who will be missed dearly by her children: Susan Hunt (Bill), Mark Creswell, Chris Korest (Andy), Jan Rietema (Tim), and Jenny Creswell Rodriguez (Fred). She will also be sadly missed by Frank Kosak, Ed and Barb Kosak, Marge Kosakoski, Bob Creswell, Don and Joyce Creswell, Ruthie Creswell Roggow, many nieces, nephews, and her best friends Mary Walker and Jane Streeter. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Irene Kosakoski; her brother Bill Kosakowski; stepmother Pat Kosakoski; and sisters-in-law, Jan Kosak and Constance “Connie” Kosakowski. The family would like to thank Julie and the Cook Center staff at Holland Home, Raybrook Manor. The staff’s attention to Mary’s needs were met with loving, kind, and compassionate care. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to St. Paul The Apostle Catholic Church, Attention: Funeral Luncheon Program, 2750 Burton St SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49546. In keeping with her wishes, a private family service and celebration of life will take place at a later date.
