Obituary

After a year-long intense battle with cancer, Mark Aaron Ambs of Kalamazoo passed away on December 16, 2019. Mark leaves behind his wife Lori Petermann, and two young children; Ridley Ray Ambs, age 5, Rylo Ziggy Ambs, age 3. He is also survived by his grandfather Gene Nye, father Daryl Ambs, mother Nancy Ambs and her longtime partner, Boyd Bronson, his brother Steven, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Mark was born May 10, 1980, and raised in Mattawan, where he was a member of the high school marching band. After completing his high school requirements, he worked at a variety of jobs in the Kalamazoo area before finding his niche in the food service industry and becoming a professional restaurant manager. In 2010, Mark followed his dream of moving to California. There he met the love of his life, Lori Petermann. In 2014 their daughter Ridley was born. In 2016, drawn by family, they moved to Kalamazoo where Rylo was born later that year.

Mark was an extremely dedicated and devoted father and husband. He was beloved by a wide circle of friends, family and colleagues who knew him as a gentle, honest, genuine, down-to-earth person, with a great sense of humor, a winning smile, and those big blue eyes. His dignity and courage in the final year of his life, as he bravely battled cancer, left a lasting impression that will live on as an example for others.

Mark’s laid back, fun loving spirit and laughter will live on through his children, which gives those who loved him comfort as he now rests in peace.

Following Mark’s wishes, there will be no funeral or showing. Those wishing to pay tribute to Mark, are encouraged to help his wife and children cope with their loss by making a donation to their GoFundMe campaign at: https://www.gofundme.com/f/help-the-ambspetermann-family-fight-leukemia
