Kim Kiwoong of Grand Rapids, aged 62, passed away on Tuesday, November 24th 2020. He was born to Hongryul and Jungsoon Kim on Dec 10 1958 in Bucheon, South Korea. Kiwoong Kim was proudly married to Kyunghee Kim for 35 years. Their love together brought two sons to this world, Euiseok, and Yongseok Kim. Kiwoong is survived by all three family members.
Kim Kiwoong (κΉκΈ°μ
) was one of the greatest men of his generation. Like all great men, he embodied the attributes of honor, strength, perseverance, and faith. What separated him from others was his characteristic kindness and altruism. Kiwoong was always willing to put aside his own needs for others. No matter how small the request may have seemed or how impossible, he would always approach it with confidence and patience. It is easy to say "I can help you." or "I'll have your back." It's easy to support when the structure is already present. But to approach crisis when it befalls our neighbors in their most needed hour is when only a few would answer. Kiwoong was always the first of the few. Whether it was to stand by someone during their final moments, share comfort with the distraught, guiding the lost in the time of need, or even traveling days away to share a simple prayer, Kiwoong Kim was there in our most urgent hour.
Kiwoong Kim was also a scholar. During his precious few times to himself, he would study other languages such as Hebrew and French. He loved to research and learn about this vast world, so he can broaden his horizon and also teach us. Kiwoong's qualities represented what was best in all of us. A man who was given little, but built a world from it. A man who worked hard to bring comfort to all of us. A man who many times pulled us from utter despair into joy. A man who found light in the deepest of darkness. Let us remember him and emulate his character. Kiwoong's world involved each and every one of us finding true happiness, and sharing our merriment with others.
We have not lost Kiwoong to passing, however. On the contrary, we have given him a new life in our future actions, thoughts, and memories. No one is truly gone, so long as they have a home in our hearts. I implore you, my friends and family, to extend your homes to Kiwoong, and you will find that even now he still exists in all of us. Together as neighbors, let us show Kiwoong the fruits of his labors so he may rest easy and be at peace next to God, knowing that he had a helping hand in shaping who we are today.
