Obituary

James F. Koenig of Medina, Ohio fell asleep in death on March 2, 2021 at age 87. He was born to Frank and Ella (née Schuster) Koenig, (deceased) on February 13, 1934 in Cleveland, Ohio.

James usually went by Jim or “Pops,” a nickname affectionately given to him by his children. Jim joined the military after high school where he learned skills in the electrical, radio and telecommunications trades. Upon being honorably discharged from the military, Jim began working for the Bell System and retired after 30 years of service. He later went to work for another 20 years at Medina Hardware where he enjoyed repairing antique lamps.

He married Doris Erhman in 1959 and spent many happy years raising two children with her. After their children were grown, they divorced amicably and remained friends. In 1989 Jim married Shirley Sanderson, who preceded him in death in 2018, and accepted into his heart her two children.

Jim was a gentle soul, who hated fighting and conflict. He loved country-living, tinkering, inventing, story and joke-telling, and his family. He was known for being very kind and grandfatherly to one and all. Jim always had a strong spiritual interest. He was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses on June 21, 1986. Jim loved telling others about the Bible’s wonderful hope for the future, and continued to do so until the very end of his life.

Jim is survived by his sister Adele Cox of Willoughby Hills, Ohio; nephew Michael Schenk; daughter Wendy Davis (née Koenig); grandson Chad Davis; great-grandsons Dakota and Hunter Davis of Medina, Ohio; son Jeffrey Koenig (wife Jerene) of Taylor, Michigan; granddaughter Natalie Kismarton (née Koenig, husband Jason); great-grandsons Rylan and Brenden Koenig of Temperance, Michigan; granddaughter Cindy Lavoie (née Koenig); great-grandson A.J. Lavoie; great-granddaughter Alayna Lavoie of Riverview, Michigan; granddaughter Melissa Christman (née Koenig, husband Derek) of Taylor, Michigan; stepson Jamie Sanderson (wife Christina); granddaughter Jessica Powers of Taylor, Michigan; stepdaughter LaVelle Escobar (née Sanderson, husband Jay); grandsons Johnathen and Jai Escobar, Jr.; granddaughters Brittney and Jasmin Escobar of Grand Rapids, Michigan.

Due to the pandemic, a service for family and friends will be held via Zoom video conference on March 28, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. Those wishing to offer expressions of sympathy are encouraged to make a contribution at JW.ORG.

My sincere condolences to the Koenig family and the Escobar family. We loved Jim dearly, he was always sharing great stories and jokes, with a wry sense of humor. Always spiritual-minded, Jim will be sorely missed by us Ohioans until we can be reunited with him, happy and healthy once again in Paradise. "He will swallow up (do away with) death forever, and the Sovereign Lord Jehovah will wipe away the tears from all faces." ~ Isaiah 25:8 - Christian Love - Wanda Robins.

I'm so sorry for your loss Jeff and Jerene. And to the rest of his family as well. I only had the pleasure of meeting him once, but he was an absolute delight and had such a youthful spirit about him. I look forward to seeing him again in the paradise earth as I know you do. Much Christian love, Shelly Cline.
