Obituary

Hunter, fisherman, craftsman, friend to all. Compassionate, caring and fun-loving.

Hartley welcomed his family, his friends, and anyone else who would sit and share a story and a laugh. He proudly served in the United States Army. He was a construction manager for the architectural firm, Daverman Associates, and also for the Grand Rapids Public Schools from which he retired.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Joyce Swanson, his two daughters, Vicki (Gregg) Kotsonas and Wendi (Gary) Ekborg, and their families including five grandchildren, Blake, Peter, Sam, Isabel, and Eric; his love for them grew every time he talked about them. He is also survived by his sisters Harriet (Bob) Maki and Carol (David) Delongchamp.

Besides family, his lasting legacy is Kozy Kamp, a labor of love built from sweat, determination, and his desire to create a place where family and friends could all gather and share in his warmth, laughter, and love for many generations. He will be greatly missed by all.

Visitation will be held Friday, January 10th at 2:00-4:00 pm and 6:00-8:00 pm at Ofield Funeral Home (4500 Kalamazoo Ave. Kentwood, MI 49508).

Memorial Service will be held Saturday, January 11th; Brief visitation at 10:30am, Service at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mark Lutheran Church (1934 52nd St. SE Kentwood, MI 49508).

Celebration of Life will be held in his hometown of Ishpeming, MI, at a later date.

To my uncle Hart you were always a big part of my life . Your influence of learning the knowledge you had and you were always
teaching me. It may have taken a lot of years to sink in but every time I pick up a piece wood I will think of being in your work
shop you saying don’t touch that you’ll lose a finger and you show me yours. When I get to deer camp and take out the gun
and hearing you say it better not be loaded and the safety on I will be thinking of you. Stories and memories to fill books I am truly blessed you were in my live and you always be there..
Love you uncle Hart
Robert
