Mr. H had a lasting impact on me and so many others. I remember him distinctly through my formative year in zoo school in the early 90's slathering on his cologne so thick you could tell where he was in the room just by scent (right after cooking up chitterlings), helping us diagram atoms, and walking us through "Animal Farm," listening to our "openings" or just giving a smile and a joke as we walked in the room. He was always warm, a great educator who, along with Mr. K, got WAY more out of us than most any typical group of 6th graders. I am so very grateful for his impact on me and his years of compassionately pushing kids to be their best. - Dave Afman

Mr. Humphrey was truly a great man. We were so privileged to have him at Zoo School to encourage us to pursue knowledge, with excellence, vigor, humor and humility. I didn’t fully appreciate his brilliance at at the time. No teacher has come close to inspiring me the way he did. All it took was that look he would give me and I knew I had to re-write the paper or re-do the assignment. “Is this your best work?” is a question that I continue to ask myself, professionally and personally. Any modicum of success I achieve is a part of his legacy. I later came to know him personally as Uncle David and saw the wonderful family man he was. Blessed to have had him in my life and I thank the family for sharing him with us. Know that many are sharing in your loss. Praying for comfort and peace for each of you.

Great memories of cooking dinners at the meadow at Camp Hayo-Went-Ha, and singing campfire songs in the teepee. Dave was, and always will be, a legend.
